In Pisa, the Dissemination and Exploitation Workshop of RESTART Spoke 1 | Pervasive and Photonic Network Technologies and Infrastructures
The workshop dedicated to Spoke 1 of RESTART Pervasive and Photonic Network Technologies and Infrastructures was held in Pisa, bringing together over 60 participants including researchers and academic and industrial partners. The initiative represented an important opportunity for sharing and enhancing the scientific and experimental activities developed within the Spoke, coordinated by the National Research Council, with Andrea Passarella serving as Spoke Coordinator.
The event opened with an introductory overview of the structural projects PESCO and C2ASPER, and subsequently of RIGOLETTO and TRIBOLETTO, which provided a comprehensive view of the Spoke’s research lines. The first part of the morning also included pitches from the targeted projects ELENE, GRAPHICS, HEPIC, SENSING-NET, and ODEONS, which briefly presented their objectives, methods, and initial results.
The workshop moved into the demonstration phase with the Proof of Concept presentations from RIGOLETTO:
- PoC7, with a remote demo from the Federico II laboratory dedicated to the Quantum Internet testbed;
- PoC3, which showcased photonic applications for radio functionalities at the TeCIP laboratories;
- PoC5, focused on demonstrating a LiFi small cell, also at TeCIP.
In the afternoon, participants visited the PESCO PoC laboratories, with an overview of the solutions for local micro-datacenters and the XR/Edge, vehicular, and QKD infrastructures of the SLICES components. The workshop concluded at 4:00 PM with a brief final summary, reaffirming the role of Spoke 1 as a national reference point for the development of pervasive and photonic technologies supporting next-generation networks.
