Spoke 4 Dissemination and Exploitation Workshop | Innovation, Research, and Technology Transfer for the Future of Telecommunications
On October 30th, 2025, the Dissemination and Exploitation Workshop of RESTART Spoke 4 took place at the Politecnico di Torino, focusing on innovation, research, and technology transfer to industry. The event provided an opportunity to share research results, foster collaboration, and enhance the visibility of the industrial and academic activities carried out within the RESTART program.
The workshop was opened by prof. Carla Fabiana Chiasserini, Coordinator of RESTART Spoke 4 and Head of Mission 7, who introduced the session and gave the floor to Gianmario Pellegrino, Full Professor at the Politecnico di Torino and advisor to the Vice-Rector for Scientific and Technological Innovation. In his address, Pellegrino emphasized the importance of initiatives such as the PNRR, describing it as “a fundamental asset for our country, which has enabled significant investments, especially in people.”
Professor Chiasserini then reviewed the main achievements of Spoke 4 research projects and the Grand Challenge 10 coordinated by the Spoke. She also highlighted the impact of the Mentorship Program developed in collaboration with Plug&Play, which has supported the growth of several innovative startups.
Among the key outreach initiatives, she mentioned the Roadshow “Connetti il domani, disegna il futuro”, an itinerant format that brought the RESTART experience to multiple Italian universities, introducing high school students to telecommunications programs freshly and engagingly.
A program with tangible impact, as demonstrated by the research and publication results:
• Publications: 109 (SUPER), 124 (FUN-Media), 6 (LEGGERO)
• Joint publications: 35 (SUPER), 41 (FUN-Media), 4 (LEGGERO)
• Journal papers: 24 (SUPER), 78 (FUN-Media), 2 (LEGGERO)
• Conference papers: 161 total (74 SUPER, 83 FUN-Media, 4 LEGGERO)
• Open-source contributions: 12 (4 SUPER, 7 FUN-Media, 1 LEGGERO)
• Standard contributions: 2 (SUPER)
A special acknowledgment was extended to the Fondazione RESTART and to all researchers and partners who contributed to the project’s success.
The technical session featured presentations of the three flagship projects of Spoke 4:
-
SUPER, presented by prof. Carla Fabiana Chiasserini
-
LEGGERO, presented by prof.Fulvio Risso
-
FUN-Media, presented by prof.Enrico Magli
One of the most significant outcomes presented during the event was the PROGNOSE Laboratory of Spoke 4. Equipped with advanced tools for training and executing complex machine learning models, the laboratory represents a strategic asset for the entire RESTART ecosystem.
As prof. Chiasserini pointed out, the laboratory is “an infrastructure that not only supports ongoing research activities but is also being made progressively open and accessible to all Spoke 4 partners.”
The event confirmed the role of RESTART Spoke 4 as a hub of excellence in research and technology transfer, a bridge between academia and industry that continues to foster innovation, collaboration, and the development of advanced skills for the future of telecommunications.
