The 2nd Workshop of the SUPER Project on Programmable Networks in Rome: Dialogue on AI and Automation
On September 25, 2025, at the Faculty of Engineering of Sapienza University of Rome, the second edition of the Industrial Dissemination Workshop on Programmable Networks (IDWPN 2025) took place. The initiative was organized by the S2-SUPER project, part of the RESTART program, with the support of COMMON NET and ADROIT-6G, and marked the project’s closing event.
The workshop, co-organized by Carla Fabiana Chiasserini (Politecnico di Torino), Gabriele Elia (TIM), Marco Polverini (Sapienza University of Rome), and Stefano Salsano (University of Rome Tor Vergata), provided a forum for dialogue between industry and research on the potential of programmable networks and automation in supporting advanced applications, from training artificial intelligence models to managing heterogeneous connectivity scenarios.
The day was structured into three technical sessions and two keynote speeches: Wim Henderix (Nokia) on “Towards Autonomous Operations” and Costin Raiciu (Broadcom & University Politehnica of Bucharest) on “Transport Protocol Design for AI/ML Networks.” Several talks explored topics such as end-to-end service optimization, XR applications, zero-touch 5G architectures, and cybersecurity challenges in programmable networks.
With over 20 contributions, including presentations, demos, and posters, the event reaffirmed IDWPN’s role as a meeting point for the academic and industrial community engaged in the development of next-generation telecommunications.
